Morocco Plans $7.5 Billion High-Speed Rail Line from Casablanca to Agadir

The high-speed train line connecting Casablanca to Agadir will cost more than 75 billion dirhams, said the Minister of Transport and Logistics.
Questioned on the subject in parliament, Mohamed Abdeljalil stated that his department is trying to find innovative solutions for the realization of this line, specifying that the government attaches great importance to it, considering it as a major project that will strengthen connectivity between the regions of the Kingdom and also boost the national economy.
To this end, the first studies concerning the infrastructure, civil engineering and topography have been completed, the minister said, estimating the overall cost of the project at around 75 billion dirhams.
This line is part of ONCF’s medium and long-term plan to cover the entire national territory, he said. This plan covers more than 1,300 kilometers dedicated to the high-speed line and 3,800 kilometers concerning the conventional network with the aim of connecting 43 cities instead of the current 23, the minister explained.
