Morocco’s Phosphate Exports Surge 83% as Global Fertilizer Prices Soar

At the end of last March, the revenue from Moroccan exports of phosphates and derivatives almost doubled, reaching 24.54 billion dirhams (MMDH) compared to 13.43 MMDH a year earlier, thanks to the rise in prices.
This trend is the result of the 7.75 MMDH increase in sales of natural and chemical fertilizers, due to the price effect which more than doubled, noting that on the other hand, exports fell by 17.8%, according to the Foreign Exchange Office.
At the same time, exports in the agricultural and agri-food sector recorded an increase of 14.9%, reaching 24.37 MMDH in the first quarter compared to 21.20 MMDH during the same period of the previous year, driven by the simultaneous increase in food industry sales (+27.4%) and agriculture, forestry and hunting (+5.7%).
For their part, textile and leather sales increased by 32.3% during the same period, while aeronautics sales showed an increase of 53% to 5.17 billion dirhams compared to 3.38 billion dirhams a year earlier.
