Brazil Seeks Moroccan Phosphate to Diversify Fertilizer Supply Amid Shortages

Faced with shortages and rising prices of raw materials, Brazil is considering diversifying its sources of fertilizer supply. The country wants to increase its imports from several countries, including Morocco.
To this end, the Brazilian Minister of Agriculture, Marcos Montes, will begin a 10-day tour on Thursday that will take him to Jordan, Egypt and Morocco, reports Reuters. The kingdom being the world’s leading producer of phosphate.
"It’s a pilgrimage we call the fertilizer diplomacy," Montes said, adding that he would be joined by representatives from the private sector. "We will open doors. The goal is to encourage foreign investors to produce fertilizers in Brazil," he continued.
At the end of last April, the country’s fertilizer imports exceeded 1.88 million tons, according to official data.
