Morocco Opens 157 New Mosques Ahead of Ramadan

This program was jointly funded by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and benefactors. According to official data from the supervising department, the work led to the construction of 95 new mosques and the complete reconstruction of 42 other establishments.

The operations also involved rehabilitating existing infrastructure across the country. Specifically, the ministry said that eleven places of worship were restored and that eight historic mosques underwent specific renovation work.

The royal directives also covered infrastructure located outside the national borders. The monarch approved the official opening of the “Mohammed VI Mosque” and its annexes, a complex built in N’Djamena, the capital of Chad.

Within the national territory, the city of Agadir has received special attention. The monarch decided to name the Grand Mosque in the Hay Salam district after himself, a building whose construction required a budget of 62.5 million dirhams and which has a capacity of 3,600 places.
