Morocco’s ONEE and Israel’s Mekorot Sign Water Development Agreement

The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and its Israeli counterpart Mekorot have signed, on Thursday in Marrakech, a memorandum of understanding on drinking water development and sanitation projects.
The agreement was initialed by the general managers of the two structures, on the sidelines of the 2022 Global Investment Forum, which was held in the ochre city. This memorandum of understanding is part of the partnership concluded on December 22, 2020 between Morocco and Israel, on innovation and the development of water resources.
According to the terms of the agreement, ONEE and the Mekorot company will work together to promote their cooperation in several sectors such as seawater desalination and innovation.
More specifically, the two parties will have to commit around seawater desalination projects, the improvement of drinking water works, the management of facilities through the development of digitalization and geographic information systems, water quality, the management of sludge from drinking water treatment plants and the introduction of innovative technologies.
This is in addition to actions in the field of research and development and capacity building, as well as in the areas of communication and awareness-raising in the field of drinking water and liquid sanitation.
