EU-Morocco Fisheries Partnership Reviewed at Rabat Meeting

The fourth Joint Committee of the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the European Union and Morocco met on November 9 and 10 in Rabat.
The current Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement and its implementation protocol entered into force on July 18, 2019. This new agreement creates a strategic governance framework with Morocco, a key partner of the European Union in the context of the neighborhood policy. It contributes to the preservation of marine resources and the economic and social development of the populations living in the areas covered by the agreement.
In a joint statement issued at the end of the proceedings, the two parties welcomed the management of the partnership agreement and the joint commitment to find solutions to the constraints in this management that have been imposed on them by the various current international crises.
Concerned about the preservation of fishery resources, the scientists focused on the examination of the scientific aspects of the agreement and agreed to continue the joint scientific work in this direction. It should be recalled that the European Union supports development projects in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, particularly in terms of strengthening fisheries research, supporting the development of artisanal fisheries, improving landing conditions, port control and enhancement.
