Morocco-Nigeria Gas Pipeline Project Advances with Key Meetings in Rabat

The Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project is progressing. Pending the final decision expected in Abuja in 2023, the technical committee organized a series of meetings in Rabat this week.
The day after King Mohammed VI’s speech marking the 47th anniversary of the Green March, in which he stressed that the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project has the potential to accelerate the socio-economic development of the continent, the project’s technical committee held a series of meetings from November 7 to 11 in Rabat, attended by representatives of energy companies from Senegal, Mauritania and Nigeria, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and Morocco. The objective: to deliberate on the progress of the project.
In a press release, the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) stated that the participants in the meetings were given presentations by companies on various issues related to the project. During this period, the committee members also visited the facilities of the Maghreb Europe gas pipeline, which is expected to be part of the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline and connect it to Europe for gas exports.
The overall cost of the Morocco-Nigeria Gas Pipeline project is estimated at $25 billion. In a statement to Bloomberg, Mele Kyari, CEO of NNPC, the Nigerian national oil company, said that a final investment decision will be made next year and that discussions around financing are ongoing.
