Morocco’s En-Nesyri Expected to Recover for Africa Cup of Nations Despite Knee Injury

While rumors were talking about a several-month stoppage for the Moroccan international Youssef En-Nesyri, this is not the case, as a two to three week unavailability is now mentioned.
"The player has a severe knee contusion pending the evolution of the situation," the Spanish club Leganés said in response to a question asked by the newspaper Le Matin, according to which the Spanish media are betting on a two to three week stoppage, synonymous with the player’s presence with the Atlas Lions at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The 21-year-old player had been injured during a training session with the national team in preparation for the matches against Malawi and Argentina. He had then decided to return to Spain for further medical examinations. His club, Leganés, had threatened to take FIFA to court and demand compensation for Youssef’s unavailability.
According to FIFA regulations, if a player is injured during a national team match and the unavailability exceeds 28 days, the club will be entitled to compensation, but the amount is not specified.
