Morocco Nears $600 Million Deal for Embraer’s KC-390 Military Aircraft, Boosting African Defense Capabilities

Negotiations regarding the sale by the Brazilian company Embraer, a leader in the aerospace industry, of KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft to the Royal Moroccan Air Force are accelerating.
A major step has been taken towards the acquisition by Morocco of the KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft. According to sources close to the negotiations, the kingdom has entered an advanced phase of negotiations with Embraer for the acquisition of its Brazilian military aircraft as part of a contract estimated to be worth more than $600 million, report Brazilian media.
These negotiations follow the signing by Rabat of a cooperation agreement with Embraer. In addition to the sale of aircraft to the Kingdom of Morocco, the agreement also includes logistical support, maintenance services, as well as the training of Moroccan pilots and technicians. According to the Brazilian media, a possible realization of this sale would strengthen the position of the Brazilian defense industry in the field of military aviation at the international level, and would help improve the operational readiness of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces. This sale would be one of the largest concluded by Embraer with a country on the African continent.
Designed to meet the strategic needs of the armed forces in terms of transport and rapid intervention, the KC-390 Millennium is characterized by its ability to transport heavy combat vehicles weighing more than 57,000 pounds, as well as a spacious cargo compartment allowing the transport of various equipment. This aircraft is also distinguished by its great operational flexibility, compatible with the requirements of modern wars and diverse missions.
The KC-390 Millennium is currently used by several armies around the world, including those of NATO member countries such as the Portuguese and Dutch armies, which each have five units of this model, as well as the Hungarian army, which has two, according to the manufacturer’s website. Other countries, including South Korea and Austria, also use this aircraft.
The acquisition of the KC-390 Millennium should contribute to the strengthening of the logistical and air capabilities of the Royal Air Force (RAF).
