Morocco Modernizes Air Force: US Partnership Boosts C-130 Fleet Capabilities

Morocco is working on the modernization of the Royal Air Force (RAF) fleet of C-130 transport aircraft dedicated to freight and logistical support. In this regard, the delegated ministry in charge of the administration of National Defense and the American aerospace giant have signed an important agreement.

Signed last Thursday, the agreement between Morocco and the United States is not aimed at replacing the C-130s of the Royal Air Force (RAF), but at modernizing them and strengthening their capabilities. This agreement represents a significant step in "the ongoing partnership between the two countries in the field of defense and aerospace," said Aimee Cutrona, Chargé d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Morocco. In addition to strengthening the capabilities of the RAF’s C-130s, this agreement also aims to "deepen the collaboration between the industries of our countries," she added.

For the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), this modernization constitutes a new cornerstone in the development of the military air transport system. This initiative "embodies Morocco’s vision to strengthen the effectiveness of its interventions on the ground both inside and outside the country, whether for operational missions or for humanitarian responses," they specified in an official communication, adding that the operation will be "carried out in accordance with the highest international standards of aeronautical quality and maintenance."

This cooperation is a smart solution, says Abdelhamid Harifi, a military consultant for Médias24, noting that before being able to acquire the future C130 J "Super Hercules", Morocco has opted for the modernization and local upgrading of its current C-130 H. These will be equipped with new avionics and technologies comparable to those of the new generation aircraft. Their operational life will be extended by 15 to 20 years.
