Morocco’s National Team Retains Assistant Coach, Considers Adding Expert to Staff

Contrary to rumors announcing his departure, Rachid Benmahmoud will continue to serve as assistant coach of the Moroccan national football team. A new member should join the staff.
Rachid Benmahmoud is not affected by the ongoing reforms within the Moroccan national football team, sources told the specialized site "Kooora", putting an end to rumors that the assistant to Walid Regragui had lost his position, after the early elimination of the Atlas Lions in the round of 16 of the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations.
But Regragui could call on an expert to strengthen the technical staff, the same sources confirmed, specifying that the Moroccan national team is currently "focused on next month’s gathering and on the friendly matches against Mauritania and Angola as part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers."
Morocco will face Angola and Mauritania on March 22 and 26 respectively, at the Grand Stade d’Agadir. The Atlas Lions will play these matches without several key players such as Noussair Mazraoui, Hakim Ziyech and Sofiane Boufal, who are injured.
