Morocco’s Assistant Coach Benmahmoud Rumored to Leave National Team Amid Restructuring

Rumors announce that Rachid Benmahmoud, assistant coach of the Atlas Lions, would have been swept away by the wind of reforms underway within the Moroccan national football team.
The assistant to the national coach would have been dismissed from his post, following the early elimination of the Moroccan team in the round of 16 of the Côte d’Ivoire 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, suggest the rumors which even announce Rachid Benmahmoud at Wydad de Casablanca.
But the information was denied by a source within the Moroccan Football Federation, contacted by Le360 Sport. "Rachid Benmahmoud is an important member of the national team staff. Walid Regragui relies heavily on him," she assured.
In a recent interview with the Arryadia channel of the SNRT group, Walid Regragui for his part stressed the need to instill new momentum into the national team, both at the level of the technical staff and the players.
The Atlas Lions will cross swords with Angola and Mauritania, respectively on March 22 and 26 at the Grand Stade d’Agadir. These two friendly matches are part of the preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Morocco is housed in group E with Zambia, Tanzania, Niger and Congo.
