Morocco’s National Rally of Independents Wins Big in Professional Chamber Elections
Saturday 7 August 2021, by
Following the elections of the Professional Chambers, which took place on Friday across the national territory, the National Rally of Independents (RNI) came out on top by winning 638 seats, or 28.61% of the votes.
An announcement made by the Minister of the Interior Abdelouafi Laftit on the basis of the first results obtained in the polling stations and the central offices of the Chambers of Agriculture and the provisional offices of the Chambers of Commerce.
Contrary to the 2015 election, the RNI has demonstrated its roots by far outpacing its opponents. The Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) came in 2nd place with 363 seats (16.28%), followed by the Istiqlal Party with 360 seats (16.14%).
In a second group are successively the Popular Movement in 4th place with 160 seats, followed by the USFP (146 seats), the UC (90 seats) and the PPS (82 seats). As for the PJD, it has clearly fallen back to 8th place with only 49 seats, or just 2.2% of the total seats at stake in these elections.
These results, recalled Mr. Laftit, are based on the results communicated in accordance with the legislative provisions in force by the polling stations and the central offices for the Chambers of Agriculture as well as the provisional results of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services, the Chambers of Crafts and the Chambers of Maritime Fisheries, pending their confirmation by the counting commissions chaired by judges.
It should be noted that the elections of the professional chambers are very important as they allow to ensure the representativeness of the professionals in all the economic activity sectors.
These elections are also crucial since a quota is reserved for the Chamber of Advisors for the professional chambers.
