Morocco’s National Electricity and Water Office Hit by Multi-Million Dirham Embezzlement Scandal

A case of fraud and misappropriation of funds is affecting the National Office of Electricity and Water (ONEE). Several million dirhams would have been embezzled by a former employee of the institution.
According to Akhbarona, on August 28, a fraud operation related to the invoices of service providers of the Casablanca Regional Directorate was detected by the Office’s audit services.
The investigation commission set up made it possible to identify shortcomings recorded for four years in the payment of service providers. A former employee of the Office was making transfers of sums owed to them to a personal account.
The transfers, made from the Office’s account, were estimated at several million dirhams. A complaint was filed by ONEE with the Attorney General of the King near the Court of Appeal of Casablanca.
