Morocco Mobilizes Rescue Efforts for 5-Year-Old Trapped in Well, Government Says

The government reacted on Thursday to the #SaveRayan operation. Mustapha Baitas, the delegate minister in charge of Relations with Parliament, government spokesman, said that efforts are being made to rescue the 5-year-old child who fell into a well in the village of Ighrane, in the Chefchaouen region.
#SaveRayan has gone viral and support is coming from everywhere to accompany little Rayan. Morocco has all the necessary rescue means and "we can ask for help if the need arises when it comes to saving the lives of citizens," the spokesman said at a press briefing. Mustapha Baitas assured that "all available medical means have been mobilized to accompany Rayan, once rescued, and ensure his transfer to the hospital to receive the necessary care."
Several scenarios have been developed to make the rescue possible. The first is to widen the diameter of the hole, but the rescuers fear that this could lead to a collapse of stones due to the nature of the soil. The second scenario is to have a rescuer descend into the well. An idea that was abandoned after several unsuccessful attempts. The last scenario, according to Mustapha Baitas, is to think about drilling a parallel hole to the well to access the boy.
The minister salutes the mobilization of Moroccans to come to the aid of little Rayan. But he stressed that the massive presence of citizens at the scene of the incident further complicates the mission of the rescuers.
