Morocco-Mauritania: Walid Regragui very disappointed with his players

Walid Regragui, coach of the Atlas Lions, did not hide his huge disappointment after the friendly match between Morocco and Mauritania, which ended in a goalless draw (0-0).
"We cannot be happy or satisfied with the draw at home, we played a bad game, especially in the first half, our pace was low and we fell into their trap, especially with many mistakes, in such confrontations, we must be more efficient and win the match," said Walid Regragui after the match. According to him, some players felt tired during the second match. Hence the need to make several changes and modify the strategy with four new players. Discussing the importance of the match, the coach of the Moroccan national team indicated that it "lies in the fact that the players learn that home matches are more difficult, the opponents come here with the intention of leaving with a draw and wasting time, we should have killed the match, but we did not play well, that’s the reality and we played a bad match".
After the two friendly matches of the international break against Angola (1-0) and Mauritania, the Moroccan coach nevertheless expresses his optimism for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Morocco will face Zambia and Congo next June. "It was generally positive, although we wanted to win, and getting a draw cannot make you happy, and we must quickly look for solutions, in order to be ready next June for the 2026 World Cup qualifications," he committed.
On the Mauritanian side, it is rather total satisfaction. "It’s a miracle, to make a goalless draw against the Moroccan team on their home turf and in front of their supporters, we can only be satisfied with this result," rejoiced the coach of the Mauritanian team. And to continue: "We play with our abilities and we have shown that we are a solid team, we lacked depth in the attack, and we had one or two chances to turn the match around, but we found in front of us a quality team, we are very satisfied with this result, and with this, we have well prepared the confrontation with Senegal in June".
