Morocco Mandates Face Masks for All Public Outings to Combat COVID-19 Spread

To fight the coronavirus epidemic, Morocco is moving to the next level starting this Tuesday, April 7. From now on, all Moroccans authorized to move around will have to wear a mask.

According to a joint press release from the Ministries of the Interior, Economy and Health, the measure is "part of the efforts to combat the spread of the epidemic of the new coronavirus (covid-19), and in accordance with the High Instructions of HM King Mohammed VI".

The new measure is accompanied by the availability of these masks in all supermarkets and grocery stores at a very low price. "The authorities have mobilized a set of national industrialists for the supply of the national market with these protective masks," it is specified, adding that this price has been made possible thanks to the contribution of the Special Fund for the management of the covid-19 pandemic.

It is also recalled that any person who does not comply with this measure is liable to a fine of between 300 and 1,300 dirhams and a prison sentence of up to three months.
