Morocco Maintains Bread Prices Amid Economic Pressure and Public Concern

Despite the economic situation, the price of ordinary bread made from soft wheat flour will not increase and will be maintained at 1.20 DH per unit.
In a press release, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has assured that the price of bread will not increase. The reason is that the government has taken measures to end the rise in prices of certain consumer products on the domestic market.
This involves maintaining the subsidy on the prices of national soft wheat flour, sugar and butane gas, "and this despite the burden on the state budget," the note states. Another measure is the suspension of customs duties on imports of soft and hard wheat and legumes.
The government has also taken the initiative to grant a lump-sum compensation for the import of these products. The average rate during the period from November 2021 to February 2022 was around 38 dirhams per imported quintal.
These measures have made it possible to maintain the prices of soft wheat flour at their current level and thus preserve the stability of the price of ordinary bread produced from soft wheat flour.
