Morocco's Literacy Program Reaches 1 Million Despite Pandemic Challenges

The National Agency for the Fight against Illiteracy (ANLCA) recorded one million twenty-two thousand beneficiaries during the 2019-2020 school year. The Head of Government Saâdeddine El Othmani affirmed this on Tuesday in Rabat, on the occasion of the 6th session of the ANLCA Board of Directors.

The literacy programs during the past school year took place in a particular context. The courses were suspended in the centers on March 16 due to the coronavirus pandemic and its many damages both on the health and socio-economic levels. It is therefore distance learning that has allowed the agency to obtain this rate in clear progression, thanks to the "Alpha Nour" and "Alpha Taahil" applications. They allowed the ANLCA to record a significant number of beneficiaries of literacy programs.

El Otmani invited all the actors in the sector to take advantage of these two applications and all the opportunities they can offer in the fight against illiteracy. He also called on the Agency to accelerate the launch of the various computer applications currently under development. The first is for the benefit of sailors, and the second is intended for farmers with the support and coordination of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), reports the MAP.

The head of government also stressed the need to make further efforts to eradicate illiteracy in Morocco. He therefore called on all partners to support the Agency to overcome the impact of the pandemic and complete the 2019-2020 school year, manage the launch of the 2020-2021 school year, reports the MAP.

During this meeting, the director of the Agency presented a presentation on the action plan for the period 2021-2023. The presentation focused on the strategies to be adopted to complete the 2019-2020 season and start the 2020-2021 year under the required conditions, the same source specifies.
