Morocco Leverages World Cup Success to Boost Tourism through Football Partnership

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) announced on Wednesday a strategic partnership, with the aim of promoting Morocco as a tourist destination through football.
This partnership, concluded between Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the FRMF, and Adel El Fakir, Director General of the ONMT, will be based on the international reputation acquired by the Atlas Lions during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and will extend from 2023 to 2030.
The agreement provides for a series of actions to highlight Moroccan football and the Moroccan tourist destination, both nationally and internationally. ONMT’s future efforts to promote sports tourism in Morocco will include a football component, while the national teams will be featured in various communication tools of the Office.
For its part, the FRMF will guarantee the ONMT increased visibility during football matches, through dedicated spaces on screens and billboards, as well as on the Federation’s digital platforms and other communication supports. This visibility will also be increased by the affixing of the ONMT logo on the training jerseys and tracksuits of the national teams.
According to the President of the FRMF, this partnership "this strategic partnership capitalizes on Morocco’s achievements in the field of football under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI. This alliance with the ONMT thus accompanies the Federation’s strategy in terms of promoting Moroccan football and equips it with the necessary expertise to conquer the world together through our noble missions." For Lekjaâ, this collaboration with the ONMT will support the strategy of promoting Moroccan football and provide the Federation with the necessary expertise to "conquer the world together". For his part, the Director General of the ONMT welcomed this cooperation, recalling that the recent performances of the national team during the Qatar World Cup generated more than 130 million interactions around Morocco-related content.
Through this partnership, the FRMF and the ONMT aim to make football a tool for promoting tourism in Morocco, while strengthening the image of the Kingdom as a "Land of Light" and a "Land of football", hosting major sporting events. This cooperation is also part of Morocco’s tripartite candidacy with Spain and Portugal to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
