Morocco Leads Spain in Bid to Host 2030 World Cup Final

Both Morocco and Spain wish to host the 2030 World Cup final that they are co-organizing with Portugal, but Rabat has an edge over Madrid.

Who between Morocco or Spain will host the 2030 World Cup final? While there are still a few years before the 2030 World Cup, the organization of which has been awarded to Morocco, Spain and Portugal and which will take place in these countries with the first three matches in South America (Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay), its final whets the appetites. Rabat and Madrid each want to host it and are proposing a stadium. But the kingdom seems to already have an edge over its northern neighbor. "The jewel of the competition is the final which, in principle, would be played in Madrid, but Morocco is fighting its battle. This is where the enormous influence that the African country exerts on the preparation of the competition comes into play. Morocco, as a country and its football federation, are at the forefront of the media control of the World Cup. Everything that is known about the tournament comes from the Moroccan side. [...] The latest novelty has been the logo of the tournament (’Yalla Vamos 2030’. ’Yalla’ in Arabic means ’Let’s go’) not yet officially announced, but already filtered by media linked to the Moroccan regime," observes the Spanish newspaper El Debate.

"Here in Spain, we are behind from the beginning," notes Daniel Calle, adding that Morocco has since warned that it will request to host the final (which will be played on Sunday, July 21, 2030) and has already proposed a modern stadium in Casablanca. By way of comparison, the author of the article notes that Rabat enjoys "significant international support" and maintains "very good relations with FIFA, which has counted" on it "to host tournaments, which is not the case in Spain for many years." To this would be added the pressures exerted by the French president on the world governing body of football so that the World Cup 2030 final is held in Morocco and not in Spain. According to Emmanuel Macron, the African continent "deserves another big final, as it would be a nod to the evolution of football in North Africa and the Maghreb, where France, for its part, wishes to have a great influence," wrote the same newspaper in a previous article.

Another asset that could maximize Morocco’s chances: a good organization of its football. In Spain, it’s rather the opposite. After the strange resignation of Víctor Francos, Secretary of State for Sports, sports at the government level are at a standstill, without a fixed leader, the author of the article notes. And he concludes: "This, combined with the interim process at the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation, ed.) with elections at the beginning of next year, means that Spain is now behind in the area of influence of the candidacy, which, however, will always be consensual, because the relations between Morocco and Spain are very good."
