Morocco Launches Smart Health System Pilot to Modernize Patient Care

Morocco plans to install a "smart health system" in health centers in the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (16), Fès-Meknès (15), Beni Mellal-Khénifra (11) and Draâ-Tafilalet (11). This first phase of the project should require a budget of 190 million dirhams.
The installation of hardware solutions in the hospitals of these four regions selected for the pilot phase should relieve 22 million patients. Ultimately, the project, which aims for universal social protection, would impact 50 million patients and above all help to alleviate the ills that still plague the Moroccan health system, which does not have a national patient file, says Hespress.
The goal is to set up this file "integrating all types of health data" on patients in order to avoid delays in diagnosis, inappropriate treatments and medical errors in general. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection will soon launch a call for tenders to recruit the service provider who will be responsible for acquiring and implementing this national smart health system. According to the established schedule, the opening of bids is scheduled for October, it is indicated.
Concretely, the service provider will have to integrate on the platform the hospital establishments (ESSP, neighborhood medical center, hospital center, university hospital, etc.) and the other centers and establishments selected by the ministry (laboratories, radiology center, etc.). By equipping itself with such a system, Morocco intends to modernize the health sector and implement preventive medicine. This system will allow the kingdom to meet technological standards and thus improve the quality of care for patients.
