Morocco Cracks Down on Illegal Patient Deposits at Private Clinics

The parliamentary advisor of the National Union of Labor in Morocco (UNTM), Loubna Alaoui, addressed an oral question to the government on the persistence of certain illegal practices in private clinics, in particular the requirement of a guarantee check from patients.

The parliamentary advisor seeks to understand why some private health centers continue to demand security deposits from patients before any treatment, a practice nevertheless punished by law. To address this situation, Loubna Aloui has called on the competent authorities to conduct a large-scale awareness campaign and strengthen controls.

In response, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, stated that his department has received nine complaints against private clinics on this subject. According to him, the solution to the problem of the guarantee check would involve a revision of the reference pricing and the generalization of health coverage.

The minister stated that control cells exist and do not fail to bring various irregularities noted to the attention of the Attorney General or the National Health Agency. Khalid Ait Taleb added that according to the private clinics, patients do not respect their commitments after treatment, which is why they demand a guarantee check.
