Morocco Launches Probe into Suspected Arson as Forest Fires Plague Northern Region

The local authorities have announced the opening of an investigation to determine the real causes of the forest fires that have become recurrent in recent times in the northern region of Morocco.
Morocco is not done with the fires. While major human, material and financial efforts are being made to overcome the fires recorded in recent days, others have broken out to the great displeasure of the authorities who believe that even if climate change can partly explain the phenomenon, this does not justify the intensity, let alone the frequency of these fires, reports the daily Al Akhbar.
According to the authorities, in addition to climate change, these fires may be criminal acts or caused by negligence. An expert had recently indicated that man had a large share of responsibility in these fires. This is why the authorities in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region want to ensure the exact cause of these forest fires in order to be able to deal with them effectively, especially since some extinguished fires have returned and in a more threatening way.
Pending the results of the investigation, efforts continue on the ground to fight the flames. Surveillance patrols are deployed in the affected areas to ensure that all embers have been extinguished to avoid new unpleasant surprises.
