Human Activity Blamed for Surge in Northern Morocco Forest Fires

In recent weeks, fires have been recorded in several forests located in northern Morocco. According to experts, these fires are largely caused by human action.
Environmental, sustainable development and climate change expert Said Chakri is categorical about the origin of the forest fires deplored recently in Morocco, especially in the northern region. He believes that natural causes account for less than 5% of the causes and that most of the fires are caused by certain acts committed by humans (cigarette butts, lighting fires in forests to cook meals, burning forest cover for agricultural use).
However, according to the expert, climate change marked by late rains and high temperatures have caused the drying of grasses, to the point that the slightest spark could lead to a major fire. This explains the intensity with which the flames devour the forests in Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima. "The citizen, whatever his position or responsibility, must contribute to the preservation of this wealth".
He urges the population to inform the authorities in time so that the necessary measures can be taken in time to avoid the disasters caused by the fires. "Forests are a common natural and human heritage that must be preserved and passed on to future generations," he added.
