Massive Wildfire Engulfs 100 Hectares in Morocco’s Tetouan Province

100 hectares of vegetation have gone up in smoke since the start of the fire that is ravaging the Beni Ider forest (Kharroub commune, Jbel Lahbib caïdat) in the province of Tetouan.
According to local sources, intense efforts are being made to contain these fires that are ravaging the vegetation cover composed of conifers and secondary plant types, without causing human damage.
The interventions required several teams composed of elements from the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie, the Auxiliary Forces, the Social Protection and the Water and Forests services, in addition to the local authorities, the National Promotion agents and volunteers from the local population.
Similarly, equipment and logistical means have been made available, including tanker trucks and 4 "Turbo Trush" type aircraft mobilized by the Royal Gendarmerie, it is added, stating that 20 aerial water dumping operations have been carried out to extinguish the flames. To secure the perimeter of the devastated forest, 247 people from four douars were evacuated to safer locations, the same source indicates.
