Morocco Launches Nationwide Tourism Revival Tour, Targets International Markets

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) is on a tour of the 12 regional councils to develop its post-Covid response strategy.
Dakhla Oued Eddahab marks the first stage of this tour. Here, the ONMT’s plan gives the greatest importance to opening the region to the international market, with the development of air links, namely a direct twice-weekly link with a major European country such as France (Paris), Germany and Spain, reports L’Économiste. The region intends to conquer these countries with a real communication device.
The medium and long-term objective, emphasizes Adel El Fakir, CEO of the ONMT, is to transform Dakhla into a strong brand, as a major international seaside destination, by capitalizing on its undeniable assets.
The next stage will be Casablanca, where professionals intend to sell the region’s tourist assets with its lakes, its regions, with the dream of making it the future contemporary capital. In this sense, declares Othman Cherif Alami, president of the Regional Tourism Council of the Casablanca-Settat region, they hope for a budget commensurate with the ambitions of this region.
These objectives cannot be achieved without the support of the airline industry. "We need to return to 50% of the air traffic that was 480 rotations per week before Covid," stresses Hamid Bentahar, president of the Marrakech/Safi Regional Tourism Council.
