Morocco Launches Major Airport Expansion Projects in Marrakech, Agadir, and Tangier

The government of Aziz Akhannouch is active in the expansion of the airports of Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier.
Responding to a question from the parliamentary group of the Rassemblement national des Indépendants (RNI) on "the development and modernization of airport infrastructure" in the House of Councillors, Mohamed Abdeljalil, Minister of Transport and Logistics, stated that the tenders for the extension of the airports of Marrakech, Agadir and Tangier will be launched in the coming weeks. He specified that these projects are intended to double the capacity of the airports in the wake of the support for the dynamics of air transport. Ahead of the preparations for the important deadlines planned in Morocco, the ministry is working to achieve the objectives set, consisting of bringing the capacity of all Moroccan airports to 80 million passengers per year, instead of the current 40 million, the minister said.
Abdeljalil also said that the National Airports Office (ONDA) had planned the extension of Marrakech airport in 2019, but the project was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2024, however, traffic has seen an unexpected increase of 40% compared to 2019. Regarding the extension of Rabat-Salé airport, the minister assured that the work should be completed by the end of this year.
