Morocco Launches Domestic Production of COVID-19 Tests, Aims for 2 Million Units Monthly

The company Gigalab announces the launch of its industrial manufacturing unit for a PCR test and two rapid tests "Made in Morocco". 2,000,000 units will be produced every month for each Covid-19 test.
This biotechnology company founded in 2007 will make Morocco the "first and only African country manufacturing a test", its director said, noting that it is a technology transfer from a renowned South Korean company. This quantity may vary depending on the partnership with the Ministry of Health and export demand, said the Gigalab CEO, adding that any citizen can take the rapid saliva test, since the act is not considered medical. As proof, he lists, in countries like France, Korea, Japan and Germany, the rapid saliva test is available in pharmacies, the goal being to facilitate mass screening.
And the director mentioned that he is only waiting for the approval of the Ministry of Health to put it on sale in pharmacies in the kingdom at a cost ranging between 80 and 100 DH. The rapid saliva test has a shelf life under packaging of up to two years. It must be stored at a temperature between 2°C and 30°C, specified the founder of Gigalab.
