Morocco Caps Covid-19 Test Prices to Improve Accessibility

The Moroccan authorities decided on Monday to lower the prices of Covid-19 screening and diagnostic tests. The new capped rates take effect from September 10, 2021.
On the initiative of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, the Inter-ministerial Price Commission in consultation with industry professionals, has set the retail prices for Covid-19 screening tests in Morocco to facilitate citizens’ access, says a statement from the ministry relayed by MAP.
Long a source of controversy, these rates have been regulated, in accordance with the provisions of Article 4 of Law 104-12 on freedom of prices and competition, and this, after consultation with the Competition Council, the note adds, stating that the capped prices take effect from September 10, 2021.
Thus, the rates are as follows:
• RT-PCR test: 400.00 dirhams
• PCR test and its isothermal variants (Rapid test): 600.00 dirhams
• Rapid antigen test with oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal sampling: 190.00 dirhams
• Automated quantitative serological test (IgM): 170.00 dirhams
• Automated quantitative serological test (IgG): 170.00 dirhams
• Rapid qualitative serological test: 120.00 dirhams
The order relating to the price ceiling of these tests, signed by the Minister of Economy, Finance and Administration Reform, will be published in the Official Gazette.
