Morocco Launches Campaign to Stem Youth Exodus Amid Rising Illegal Emigration

Morocco is facing an unprecedented wave of illegal emigration, especially among its youth. Faced with this phenomenon, the kingdom is deploying a shocking awareness campaign to deter young people from attempting the crossing to Europe.
Billboards display strong messages: "Your country first... Corruption and unemployment are not reasons to flee", "Fleeing will not solve the problem... Exile can deceive you, but it is the country that remains with you in difficult times".
These slogans call on young people to resist the sirens of emigration, which promise work and success in Europe, and to consider that "fleeing" in the face of "corruption" and "unemployment" is not a solution.
This campaign comes as several regions of Morocco, such as the city of Fnideq, have recently been the scene of attempts at illegal emigration to Spain, attempts that Moroccan security forces have tried to put an end to.
