Moroccan Judge Arrested After Hit-and-Run While Intoxicated, Prosecutor Seeks Charges

The public prosecutor’s office of the Court of Appeal of Kénitra has requested that proceedings be initiated against a magistrate who, while intoxicated, caused a traffic accident and fled before being arrested.
The magistrate was arrested by the judicial police officers as he was heading towards Tangier, reports the daily Assabah. The latter caused the accident in the Khabbazat district, while driving an SUV in a state of intoxication, injuring a pedestrian. He then fled towards the north of the city, without alerting the police and emergency services.
Informed by witnesses of the accident, the police issued a notice to the various checkpoints at the entrance and exit of the city, which allowed them to arrest him a few minutes later. A deputy prosecutor went to the checkpoint to note the magistrate’s state of intoxication. He underwent a breathalyzer test on the orders of the public prosecutor, and the Attorney General of the King then forwarded his file to the justice system to initiate proceedings against him.
