Morocco Launches $300 Million Railway Upgrade for High-Speed Line Expansion

The launch by the National Railway Office (ONCF) of a consultation for the realization of civil engineering and superstructure works on the conventional lines marks a new step towards the realization of the project to build the High Speed Line (LGV) between Kenitra and Marrakech.

ONCF is looking for a company capable of carrying out civil engineering and superstructure works on the conventional lines. In this sense, the Office launched a consultation on Monday. The amount of this new contract is close to 3 billion dirhams (MMDH). In addition to earthworks, the contract includes the construction of engineering structures, drainage, construction of platforms, roads, safety equipment and networks, railway track works and catenary works. These works aim to increase the rail capacity on this strategic axis, while improving the fluidity and safety of traffic.

The present contract is divided into four distinct lots. Each lot corresponds to a specific section of the line, with variable investments depending on local needs. With a total cost of 561.9 million dirhams, the Sidi Ichou-Sidi Bernoussi section extends from the LGV/LC junction of Sidi Ichou to the future RER station of Sidi El Bernoussi (excluding lot). It is planned to modernize the intermediate stations of Kenitra, Sidi Bouknadel, Salé Tabriquet, Rabat Agdal, Témara, Mohammedia among others. Worth 805 million dirhams, the Sidi Bernoussi-Oasis section extends from the future RER station of Sidi El Bernoussi to the existing station of Casablanca Oasis. This section will pass through strategic stations such as Casa Port and Casa Voyageurs.

The third Oasis-Nouaceur section requires an investment of one billion dirhams. This section covers the section between the Casablanca Oasis station and the Mohammed V airport station, passing through important stops such as Sidi Maârouf and Bouskoura. As for the fourth Sidi El Aïdi-Marrakech section, the investment cost is 624.2 million dirhams. This section extends from the Sidi El Aïdi station to the Marrakech station. The works include the stations of Settat, Benguerir, as well as the future station of the Marrakech Stadium, etc.
