Morocco to Launch Monthly Cash Aid Program for Low-Income Families

The Moroccan government plans to grant a monthly direct financial aid to all underprivileged families, before the end of its term next year.
Legislative and statistical provisions are currently being finalized within the executive branch, in order to put in place a new direct support plan that will be integrated into the 2021 Finance Bill.
To this end, the law relating to the unified social register (RSU), defining the eligibility criteria, has already been adopted by the House of Representatives. In addition, with the generalization of the new biometric card, the targeting of the population concerned will be easier and more effective, it is assured.
However, the success of this reform must also go through a complete overhaul of the compensation fund. Until now, the government has always refused to touch it for fear of social protests.
