Morocco to Launch Universal Family Allowance Program for Millions in Need

In Morocco, the government plans to provide direct assistance to needy families as part of the project to universalize family allowances in 2023.
In total, 7 million children from low-income families and another 3 million needy families will be impacted by the project. The Head of Government, in a circular addressed to the ministers regarding the 2023 finance bill, indicated that this project will be carried out using a direct assistance approach. This aid will come in the form of family allowances. Underprivileged families will no longer have to resort to social programs that have proven to be less effective.
"In application of the directives of the King of Morocco Mohammed VI, the government will accelerate the publication of the unified social register as a basic mechanism to provide support and ensure its effectiveness," the note further states. Families wishing to benefit from the direct aid will have to register and will be classified according to the level of poverty, vulnerability and eligibility.
The project partly concerns families registered with the National Social Security Fund. Registration with this fund grants family allowances of around 300 DH (30 euros) for each of the first three children.
