Morocco to Launch First Floating Solar Power Plant, Boosting Renewable Energy Goals

Morocco is commissioning its first floating photovoltaic power plant in Sidi Slimane in a few weeks. It is being built by the company Energy Handle, specialized in the renewable energy sector and energy efficiency on behalf of the company "Lady B".
The infrastructure will allow Morocco to achieve both energy efficiency, water savings and avoid the emission of around 12,000 tons of CO₂.
Ultimately, the 800 photovoltaic panels that will be installed will generate 360 KW for the first phase and an annual production of around 644 MWh, a press release from the company states, adding that this floating power plant offers several ecological advantages.
For the director of the company Energy Handle, Hassan Nait Bella, "this achievement is at the heart of the strategic vision of the Kingdom of Morocco, following the instructions of His Majesty, calling for the deployment of energy efficiency and water conservation. Floating photovoltaics is a great opportunity for national agriculture for sustainable development of the sector and better competitiveness".
It should be noted that Energy Handle has proven itself in Morocco. The company has already equipped 490 rural schools with solar energy in several regions and is currently powering the House of Representatives with solar energy.
