Morocco’s King Pardons Over 1,500 Prisoners, Including Terrorism Convicts, for Eid al-Fitr

King Mohammed VI pardoned some 1518 people on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr celebrated this Saturday, April 22 in Morocco, including some who were convicted in terrorism cases. Here are the details of these pardons:
The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon who are in detention number 1270 detainees, distributed as follows:
• Pardon on the remainder of the prison or criminal sentence in favor of 411 detainees.
• Remission of the prison or criminal sentence in favor of 858 detainees.
• Commutation of the life sentence to a fixed-term sentence in favor of one (01) detainee.
The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon who are at liberty number 231 people, distributed as follows:
• Pardon on the prison sentence or its remainder in favor of 61 people.
• Pardon on the prison sentence with maintenance of the fine in favor of 08 people.
• Pardon on the fine sentence in favor of 156 people.
• Pardon on the prison and fine sentence in favor of 04 people.
• Pardon on the fine and the remainder of the prison sentence in favor of 02 people.
The list also includes 17 people previously convicted in terrorism cases who "revised their ideological orientations and rejected extremism".
• Pardon on the remainder of the custodial sentence in favor of 05 detainees.
• Pardon on the remainder of the custodial sentence and the fine sentence in favor of 05 detainees.
• Remission of the custodial sentence in favor of 06 detainees.
• Pardon on the fine sentence in favor of one (01) person.
