Morocco's King Orders Nationwide COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign for Adults

King Mohammed VI ordered, on Monday, the launch in the coming weeks, of a massive vaccination operation against Covid-19. This decision was made during a working session devoted to the vaccination strategy.

"This national operation, of unprecedented scope, aims to cover the population with a vaccine as the ideal means of immunization against the virus and to control its spread. According to the results of the clinical studies already completed or still ongoing, the safety, efficacy and immunogenicity of the vaccine have been proven," says a statement from the Royal Cabinet.

"Thus, this operation will have to cover citizens over 18 years of age, according to a vaccination schedule in two injections. Priority will be given in particular to frontline personnel, namely health personnel, public authorities, security forces and national education personnel, as well as the elderly and people vulnerable to the virus, before extending it to the rest of the population," specifies the same source, stressing that the kingdom has been able to occupy an advanced rank in the supply of the Covid-19 vaccine.

To carry out this operation, the king has given instructions to the competent authorities to ensure the proper preparation and smooth running of this national operation of unprecedented scope, both in terms of health, logistics and technology. "Emphasis has been placed in particular on the accessibility of the vaccine, in a social and solidarity framework, and its availability in sufficient quantities, as well as on the medical logistics of transport, storage and administration of the vaccine throughout the territory and the establishment of an effective pre-registration system for beneficiaries," the statement continues.

Also, the sovereign has called for the mobilization of all the services and departments concerned, in particular the health personnel, the territorial administration and the law enforcement agencies, as well as the necessary support of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), in accordance with the missions entrusted to them.
