Morocco's King Mohammed VI Leads Council on COVID-19 Response and Budget Amendments

King Mohammed VI chaired, on Monday, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, a Council of Ministers during which the general guidelines of the draft supplementary finance law for the year 2020 were examined. Several international draft laws were also examined.

According to the press release which reported the various decisions taken during the session, the Minister of Health spoke on the evolution of the epidemiological situation, especially on the easing of health confinement measures. It emerges, according to the explanations provided, that "the epidemiological situation is stable with a high degree of vigilance". He stated that the majority "of the people affected are asymptomatic".

Regarding the easing of health confinement, he stressed that "the fatality rate has remained low and the number of critical cases low". He justified the recent increase in the number of contamination cases by "the expansion of the circle of early collective screening, the intensification of consultations and the monitoring of contact persons," reports the MAP.

The Minister of Economy, Finance and Public Administration Reform, for his part, presented a report which explained the reasons why the draft supplementary finance law has become a means that can help to cope with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This draft law is based on a set of pillars presented by the minister. These include "supporting the gradual resumption of economic activity", "preserving employment", accelerating the implementation of administrative reforms and "supporting the gradual resumption of economic activity". At the end of his presentation, the minister stressed that "all the guidelines of this project are essentially aimed at overcoming the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis at the economic and social levels".

During the same session, the King approved three draft laws and a draft decree relating to the military field. It should be noted that in accordance with the provisions of Article 49 of the Constitution and on the proposal of the Head of Government and at the initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Mohammed VI appointed the Secretary General of the ministry as well as the ambassadors of the Kingdom around the world, specifies the same source.
