Morocco’s King Inaugurates Peugeot-Citroën Plant, Boosting Auto Industry and Jobs

After more than two years of work and four years after signing a convention with the Moroccan state, the PSA (Peugeot-Citroën) plant in Kenitra was officially inaugurated yesterday, Thursday, June 20, 2019, by King Mohammed VI.
This plant, with a capacity of 100,000 cars per year, but also of engines, will generate some 4,000 direct jobs and is expected to increase its total production capacity to around 200,000 cars by 2022.
In total, the French Group has invested three billion dirhams in this new plant and should inject the same amount in the coming years for its future projects. This shows that the ecosystem that will be built around this plant will be of great importance for the entire Kenitra region, in particular, and for Morocco, in general.
According to the company’s managers, the site will produce thermal and electric vehicles. In addition, it will have a local integration rate at the inauguration of 60%, a percentage that should reach 80% in a few years. This shows that Morocco is increasingly specializing in this sector and, above all, that global groups trust it and are betting on the Kingdom.
It should also be noted that the Kenitra Free Zone (Atlantic Free Zone) is welcoming 27 new factories from 10 countries, a source of pride for the Minister of Industry, Moulay Hafid Elalamy.
