Morocco: Jewelers Arrested for Buying Stolen Goods from Burglary Ring

Four jewelers from Taroudant and a fifth from Inezgane were arrested and brought before the competent prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, December 8. They would have bought stolen jewelry and other precious items from a couple of burglars.
It all started with the complaint of a man from Inezgane whose house was burgled in November. The judicial police elements opened an investigation that resulted in the arrest of the suspect, a 44-year-old man in Taraste, reports Al Massae.
In the wake of this, his 38-year-old accomplice was arrested at her home. The loot consisting of several jewelry items, mobile phones and a sum of money in foreign currency and dirhams was seized. The thirty-something and her partner specialize in burglaries of houses in Inezgane.
After their arrest, the alleged burglars and the five jewelers were taken into custody. The couple is being prosecuted for burglary and other charges that will be brought against them. As for the jewelers, they will be prosecuted for receiving stolen goods.
