Morocco Introduces Sniffer Dogs to Detect Water Leaks in Rabat Region

Saturday 26 March 2022, by Armel

New in Morocco. Sniffer dogs are used to detect leaks in the water networks in Rabat-Salé and Skhirat-Témara. The experiment is being conducted in the region by a French cynological company. Objective: to preserve the water resource.

The test initiated by the delegating company for electricity, drinking water and liquid sanitation services in Rabat-Salé and Skhirat-Témara, Redal, is part of the desire to diversify the detection techniques aimed at preserving this precious resource, reports the MAP.

During the operation, three dogs, two German shepherds and a Malinois, from the French team, accompanied by their handlers, scoured the pipeline route in search of water leaks.

Laurent Drouet, technical support manager at Redal, said he was "satisfied" with the results obtained during the tests carried out, even if the use of dogs is in the validation phase, noting that these animals can cover up to 3 kilometers per hour and scan about 10 km in search of leaks, depending on the chosen routes.
