Morocco Grapples with Stray Dog Crisis as Lawmakers Urge Government Action

Several deputies have called on the government to take measures to fight the persistent problem of stray dogs that is a source of great concern for Moroccans.

The problem of stray dogs is a concern for Parliament. "The problem is a huge source of anxiety on the roads and in the alleys, especially in the more popular neighborhoods," said deputy Mohamed Raggani. "It causes a lot of fear among citizens, regardless of their status or age, especially children going to school early in the morning." These dogs continue to sow panic in several cities of the kingdom.

Idriss Chraibi, a member of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), recalled the recent death of a young child in Casablanca, reports Morocco World News. The latter was bitten by a rabid dog. Naziha Miqdad, from the Party of Progress and Socialism, for her part mentioned the death of a 2-year-old child bitten by a stray dog.

Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, had meanwhile stated that his department had allocated up to 70 million dirhams (7 million euros) in recent years to several local municipalities to obtain equipment, in order to solve the problem. Unfortunately, this problem continues to grow.
