Morocco Introduces 24-Hour Grace Period for Mask Violation Fines

The payment of a fine of 300 DH for not wearing a protective mask can be made 24 hours after the issuance of the ticket. This is the decision of the Council of Government following the adoption of a new draft decree.
This text aims to strengthen the punitive provisions enacted by Decree-Law No. 2.20.292, which are related to the non-compliance with "physical distancing between people and the wearing of masks as preventive measures to curb the spread of the epidemic". These offenses may be subject to "settlement through on-site ticketing and payment of a flat-rate transaction fine of 300 DH".
The payment of the 300 DH leads to the extinction of the public action. But in the event that the fine remains unpaid, a report will be transmitted to the public prosecutor’s office in order to take the necessary measures within 24 hours from the finding of the offense.
