Government Tightens Mask and Distancing Enforcement with $30 On-the-Spot Fines

The government no longer wants to take any major risks. After the period of relaxation that caused an increase in new infections, the authorities have stepped up controls on compliance with prevention measures and barrier gestures throughout the territory.
The non-wearing of a mask or the non-respect of social distancing measures are punishable by a fine of 300 DH, to be paid on the spot, recalls l’Économiste. The latest government council has moreover approved the decree imposing this flat-rate fine.
According to the same daily, the law enforcement officers first opted for awareness-raising before any fining. As soon as a person is fined, they are forced to pay the fine on the spot.
Failing that, they are transferred within 24 hours to the nearest police station. According to the same daily, vigilance, rigor and strengthening of controls by the public authorities are now the watchwords.
This decision aims to ensure better compliance with prevention measures in order to curb the coronavirus pandemic throughout Moroccan territory.
