Morocco: Internet Everywhere

The Ministry of Digital Transition announced the coverage of 10,690 rural areas out of the 10,740 initially planned. This deployment, offering second, third and fourth generation services, is part of the first phase of the national broadband and very high-speed plan conducted between 2018 and 2024. The census of these territories was carried out in close collaboration with the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency and local authorities.

To break the isolation of remaining regions, a second phase was launched on September 25, 2024. The goal is to connect 2,000 rural sectors suffering from weak or non-existent connectivity by year’s end. For areas completely inaccessible by terrestrial networks, a satellite solution is offered to residents. This alternative is supported by direct financial aid of 2,500 dirhams granted for each new subscription.

These clarifications came following the questioning of the supervising minister, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, by a parliamentary advisor regarding digital lag in Settat province. The government official assured that five localities attached to the Ain Bilal municipality currently benefit from operational access to mobile phone and internet services.
