Morocco: The "Starlink revolution" slowed down?

Since 2014, Starlink has been trying to establish itself in the Moroccan market. However, this satellite internet service project is facing intense resistance from national telecommunications companies. The latter view the arrival of this new technological competitor in a negative light, reports the website Africa Intelligence.

Currently, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) has not granted any official license to the American company. Despite this legal void, many Moroccan users are already circumventing the restrictions by using illegal international subscriptions to benefit from this satellite connection.

However, ANRT’s approval is the necessary lock to unlock the potential of this technology within the Kingdom. The introduction of Starlink could lead to major improvements for the national digital economy, thanks to high connection speeds and extensive coverage, all at often more competitive rates.

The Starlink project specifically aims to provide high-speed internet service in the most isolated regions. By relying on a constellation of satellites, it offers a viable alternative where terrestrial infrastructure is lacking, thus ensuring effective digital integration for rural areas.
