Morocco Intensifies Border Security to Curb Illegal Migration to Spain

After the assault on Melilla, Morocco has taken new measures to block the path of illegal migrants who might be tempted to enter Spain through the borders between the two countries.
The security forces (police, gendarmerie and auxiliary forces) are showing their determination to prevent illegal migrants from gathering in the forests bordering the city of Ceuta and any other area where illegal immigrants usually hide. In this sense, they have intensified proactive security operations, in order to thwart any planning of organized attacks like in Melilla. According to sources, the patrols of the public force have invested the forests adjacent to the locality of Belyounech and the prefecture of Fahs-Anjra, reports the Arabic-language daily Al Akhbar. The auxiliary authorities and other specialized police elements are also involved in these operations. At the same time, the services of the wilaya of the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region are organizing meetings to plan and carry out preventive actions.
These various operations are already bearing fruit. In total, 59 sub-Saharan migrants, candidates for illegal immigration, were arrested during an operation in Tetouan and near the locality of Belyounech in the vicinity of Fnideq. Among them, people who had in their possession cutting tools specially designed for assaults and climbing fences.
