Morocco Imposes New Rules on Spanish Truckers in Fuel Dispute Retaliation

Faced with the various complaints of Moroccan carriers regarding the fuel franchise imposed by Spain, the Moroccan authorities have reacted. They now require Spanish transport companies to have a cooperation contract with a Moroccan carrier before operating in the Kingdom.
This decision by the Minister of Equipment, Transport and Logistics, Abdelkader Amara, takes effect from Monday, October 26, 2020, reports Medias24. The objective is to recover part of the added value in Morocco.
This measure follows the application of the fuel franchise, an old law from 1992 reactivated by Spain and which requires Moroccan TIR trucks to have a maximum of 200 liters in the tank and to refuel in Spain. Any offender is liable to a fine of 500 to 700 euros.
