Morocco’s Ilias Akhomach at Center of National Team Tug-of-War
The national coach, Walid Regragui, wants to have Ilias Akhomach in the Atlas Lions squad for the friendly matches against Angola and Mauritania, scheduled for March. The Villarreal midfielder is also courted by the Olympic team coach, Issam Charai, for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Regragui hopes that Akhomach will join the Moroccan team during their next gathering in preparation for the friendly matches against Angola on March 22 and Mauritania on March 26 at the Grand Stade d’Agadir. For his part, Charai is counting on the presence and experience of the Villarreal midfielder at the camp that will take place in Ankara, Turkey to prepare for the Olympics.
Akhomach is willing to represent one or the other team, a source close to the player told the press, recalling his recent participation with the Olympic team in Murcia in matches against Denmark and the United States. Akhomach is happy and proud to play for Morocco, the same source added, specifying that the most important thing for the Villarreal midfielder is to participate in the Paris Olympics.
